Types of Skin Cancer: Melanoma vs non-melanoma

Melanoma, is extremely aggressive with a high propensity to spread. Non-melanoma is common, grows slowly, and seldom spreads.

Symptoms of Melanoma

■ A change in an existing mole. ■ Development of a new pigmented growth on the skin.

Symptoms of Nonmelanoma

■ A new growth on the skin.  ■ Alterations to a skin area that already exists, like color or shape changes.  ■ A skin patch that is itchy, painful, crusting, or bleeding. ■ A persistent ache that refuses to go away. 

Risk factors of Melanoma

■ Exposure to UV light ■ Weakened immune system  ■ Skin that sunburns easily  ■ Having many moles or moles that aren't typical 

Risk factors of Nonmelanoma

■ Being outdoors too much ■ A history of skin cancer in the family ■ Radiation therapy ■ Medicines to control the immune system

Prevention
